Wanda Mae Thompson

May 29, 1947 — November 20, 2020

Wanda Mae Thompson was born May 29, 1947 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Carl Thompson and Juanita Rich. She was the middle sister to Doyle and Eddie. She attended school in Wilson, Oklahoma where she met Jim Bob Kennedy. She and Jim Bob were married in 1961. They had four children: Ronda Williams, Jimmy Kennedy, Sheila Harmon, and Katherine Lawrence.

She spent the next several years raising her children in and around the Maysville area. She welcomed her first grandchild in 1979. He was the light in her life. She loved being a grandmother; so much that she traveled to California for the birth of one of her grandchildren. In all, she had eleven grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Wanda always dreamed of being a nurse. Unfortunately, she never realized that dream, but did work in several nursing homes providing companionship and care to many people. She eventually acquired her CDL and became an over the road truck driver with her best friend. Together they were some what of a novelty being a woman team driving cross country. She had fun and had plenty of interesting stories to tell, but she grew to miss her kids and grandkids too much to be gone so much. She gave up the truck driving and settled into a career as a convenience store manager until she had to retire due to complications of her RA.

Once she retired, she moved to Kiefer. She lived there for several years, and then on to Carney, Oklahoma. She had a fall that lead her to being a resident at Westhaven Skilled Nursing in Stillwater Oklahoma. She touched many lives there and was voted this year’s Valentine’s Day Queen. She took her last breath there on Friday, November 20, 2020. She went home to be with her Heavenly Father, her parents, her brother Doyle, her son Jimmy, her grandson Tyrel, and two great grandsons James and Ty. They all will welcome her home and eagerly listen to the stories of the family yet to come.

Masks and social distancing will be in place at the services and cemetery.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Winans Funeral Home Chapel, Maysville with Pastor Bo Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
