Stephen Lyle Weatherford of Stratford, formerly of Paoli was born on December 14, 1952 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to J. C. and Leta Evelyn (Anderson) Weatherford and passed from this life on Monday, June 1, 2020 in his home at the age of 67 years.
Steve was a lifetime resident of Garvin County, graduating in 1972 graduate from Maysville High School and then attended Mid-America Vo-Tech where he obtained his skills in welding and carpentry. Over the years he had worked as a carpenter, welder, oilfield laborer, manufacturing trailers, a corrections officer, and at Curwood for 20 years before retiring. He was very talented in welding, carpentry, and skilled in many other areas. Steve married Sherie Smith on October 31, 1976 at the First United Methodist Church in Maysville and they made their home in Paoli for 30 years before moving to Stratford three years ago. Steve was extremely proud of his kids and loved his grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, cooking, OSU, and Harley Davidson. He was a free spirit and loved the song “Freebird”. Steve will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Those left behind to cherish his memories are his wife of 43 years, Sherie of the home.
Sons: Billy Shane Weatherford and wife Alecia of Pauls Valley; Jay Michael Weatherford and wife Andra of Prosper, Texas; and Charles Thomas Weatherford and wife Kelly of Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Daughter, Lacey Weatherford Foster and husband Michael of Pauls Valley.
Brother, Lynn Weatherford and wife Penny of Pauls Valley.
Grandchildren: Brett Williams, Cerissa Otey, Nicole Weatherford, Rhealynne Foster, Abby Weatherford, McKelvie Weatherford, Jacob Weatherford, Rorey Weatherford, Dakota Weatherford, Kinsley Weatherford, and one more on the way.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, J. C. and Evelyn Weatherford; and one brother, Wesley Jay Weatherford.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, June 5, 2020 at the First United Methodist Church, Maysville, OK with Bro. Brandon Henry officiating. Following the State of Oklahoma guidelines for Phase 3 re-opening, social distancing will be utilized. Burial in the Maysville Cemetery will be open to the public with social distancing guidelines in place. Arrangements are under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
