Shaun Michael Ross of Elmore City was born on November 8, 1978 in Bellflower, California to Lawrence Edward Ross, Sr. and Karon (Kuykendall) Mentz and passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 in Oklahoma City at the age of 39 years.Shaun grew up in California, graduating in 1996 from Canyon Springs High School, Moreno Valley, California. On August 20, 2001 he entered the United States Army where he served as a Sergeant E5 Military Police for 10 years, working as a traffic accident investigator, diver, and dog handler. The favorite part of his experience was handling the narcotic dogs. At his pinning ceremony he stated that although he contracted his cancer from his military service, he would do it all over again. Shaun lived in New York before moving to Elmore City in 2007. After arriving in Oklahoma he joined the National Guard Infantry for 2 ½ years. He loved spending time with his family. Shaun enjoyed working in sales and helping people as a solution specialist for Verizon Wireless. He was a big collector of watches and knives, and liked to hunt with black powder guns and had killed his first deer this year. He was a member of the Sunnymead Baptist Temple in California and was recently attending the Antioch Cowboy Church. Shaun will be greatly missed by his family and friends.Survivors include his mother, Karon Mentz and her husband John of Elmore City.Father, Lawrence Ross, Sr. and wife Mary of Showlow, Arizona.Brothers: Howard Edward Ross and wife Tina of Elmore City; and Lawrence Edward Ross, Jr. and wife Michelle of Noble.Sisters: Maelee Boulding and husband Jim of Davis; Alana Sherman and husband Sam of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Alie Mentz of Davis.Shaun was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, June Kuykendall, Leslie Kuykendall, and paternal grandmother, Barbara Ross.A full military service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 16, 2018 at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, OK.
