Robert Ray “Bob” Mashburn of Lindsay was born on January 5, 1941 in Oklahoma City to George and Auvern (Dosser) Mashburn. He passed from this life on Saturday, May 27, 2023 in his home at the age of 82 years.
At first glance, it could seem to some that Bob Mashburn lived a limited life: He lived in one town for most of his life and held one job. But for those who knew him, Bob’s entire life is a tale of quiet strength and unwavering commitment that touched numerous lives over many years. Bob was born into the role of middle child among his brothers and sister. Throughout his life, he was close to his siblings and served his family as the hub for family celebrations each year.
In school, he was a gifted athlete and played a key role in Lindsay’s state football championship in 1958. Through the years, Bob has remained close to his teammates and been a steady supporter of Lindsay sports each year since. Bob married Pat, one of the team’s cheerleaders. The pair took the vow, “for better or for worse” very seriously and were married for sixty-three years. Soon, he became a father and was his two children’s biggest fans in everything they did throughout their lives, making sure they felt secure and loved.
To support his growing family, Bob worked hard to learn his trade. At the young age of twenty-five, circumstances placed him in charge of his company; one that went on to provide jobs to many in the area over the years. Through boom and bust, Bob was the steady presence that kept things going, sometimes in locations in the far corners of the world. Not only did he take command of his company, but he also worked at farming, ranching, horses and other enterprises. As the years went by, his family grew, adding new members from many backgrounds. Bob considered “family” to be a matter of the heart, not biology. He had a way of making others feel like part of the clan. Soon came grandchildren, who called him, “Bob”, “Grandpa Bob”, and “Gramps”. He was the “fun grandfather”, who always had time to play, chase, tickle, or simply sit and listen.” Soon, great-grandchildren came along, and Bob embraced the title, “Super Gramps”. He made each of them feel like a treasure from God because that is what he believed.
The most important example of Bob’s strength and commitment started at a early age. Bob asked Jesus to be his Savior as a boy and was baptized at the age of eleven. He was a faithful member of Erin Springs Baptist Church and was committed to serving the Lord by studying His word and obeying His commands to serve others. This is an example that all of those who love Bob Mashburn will do well to follow.
