Marydel Howton Barnes

               Marydel Howton Barnes, age 90, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2024, in Lindsay, OK. She was born June 23, 1933, in Foster, OK to Arthur Miller Reeves, Sr. and Mary Mandy (Cook) Reeves. She attended school at Elmore City, Erin Springs, and graduated from Lindsay High School. Mary worked from home taking care of her family for the majority of her life.

                She married Jack Randall Howton on July 5, 1953, in Lindsay, OK. They shared a wonderful life and raised four children: Joyce, Jan, Judith, and Jerry. They were married until Jack’s passing on November 11, 1984.

Mary was a stay-at-home mother, and her greatest accomplishment was taking care of her kids. She was an excellent cook and loved for her family to come home from their day to a delicious meal. She really enjoyed going to the cabin at the lake to fish and spent a lot of time with family there. She loved traveling, especially to the mountains in Colorado.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lindsay, OK, where she enjoyed going on trips with her church friends and singing with The Singing Seniors.

Mary is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her children, Joyce Gabbard, Jan Bray and husband Rick and Judith Wells. Nana will also be remembered by her grandchildren, Bradley Gabbard and wife Rachelle, Jeff Bray and wife Brianne, Russell Wells and wife Mindy, Jennifer Wilson, Justin Bray and wife Kristi, and Ben Gabbard. She was loved by her great-grandchildren, Jackson Gabbard, Easton Bray, Gracey Bray, Marley Gabbard, Jack Bray, Lawson Bray, Conner Wells, and Brock Bray. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Mary met and married Bill Barnes on April 15, 2006 and they were married until his passing on April 7, 2019. From this union, Mary was blessed to add Bill’s children and grandchildren to her family. They are Jon Barnes and wife Becca and Jenny Somerhalder and husband Doug. Also Blake Barnes, Morgan Barnes, Lexi Somerhalder, and Brock Somerhalder.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Mary Reeves, her son, Jerry Howton, and her siblings James Reeves, A.M. Reeves, Jr., Trenna Nation, and George Reeves.

            Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Lindsay, Oklahoma with Bro. Nick Johnson officiating.  Burial at Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma.
