On January 19, 2022 Lynn Calloway Rogers, left his earthly home. He was a very fortunate man during his stay on earth. He was blessed to have been born on April 15, 1939 in Oklahoma City, OK to wonderful parents, Harold and Emmagene Rogers. Lynn was privileged to grow up on the family farm at Maysville, OK on the banks of the Washita River.
He had two wonderful and beloved sons, Randall Lynn (Randy) Rogers and William Harold (Bill) Rogers of Norman from a previous marriage with Gwen. Lynn later married the love of his life, Gaye Ann York.
He had two fascinating careers, that of a research chemist and a lawyer. He made a good living, and had an absolute ball hunting, fishing, sightseeing, listening to the music he loved so much, reading all manner of books, and researching his Chickasaw Indian and Irish/English/German ancestors. Lynn would want you to sing no sad songs for him. Rather, get together and tell some funny Lynn Rogers stories. And, oh yes: Lynn’s 11thgreat grandfather, Thomas Matthew Rogers (1562—1621) really did come to America on the Mayflower!
In his first career as a research chemist, Lynn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Science degree in Chemistry from Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Georgia. He worked as a research chemist for Conoco for ten years, living in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and was inventor and holder of numerous United States and foreign patents relating to oil additives.
In 1972, Lynn and former wife Gwen and sons Randy and Bill pulled up roots from Ponca City and moved to Norman, Oklahoma where Lynn earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma School of Law in December 1974.
Lynn worked for the Cleveland County District Attorney’s office for a few years when he found his love and passion for municipal law, public finance, and local government law, which spanned for nearly 50 years.
He was a municipal bond lawyer and a charter member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers. Lynn was also very involved in the Oklahoma Municipal Attorneys Association, in which he found himself acting as City Attorney for various municipalities across the State of Oklahoma when vacancies arose.
In 2002 Lynn closed his private law practice and worked for the State of Oklahoma Attorney General’s office.
Lynn’s expertise in municipal bond and public finance law matters kept him quite busy reviewing transcripts of hundreds of bond issues for public schools, municipalities, and state agencies. He helped dozens of state agency employees gain a better understanding of the bond issuance process and strengthened the ability of these agencies to finance needed projects in a financially responsible manner. Throughout Lynn’s almost four decades of municipal bond law practice, he became friends with the lawyers in the municipal bond community in Oklahoma and throughout the nation.
He is survived by his two sons and their families, Randy and wife Sue of Norman, OK, grandson Evan; Bill and wife Sheri of Norman, OK, and two other grandsons Brandon and Brian Rogers. His extended family, through his marriage to Gaye, included sons Mickey Charles Simms and wife Kasee Simms of Oklahoma City, OK and grandchildren Brendan Holder, Madeline Simms and Landon Simms; Britt Simms and wife Erin of Coppell, Texas and granddaughter Cassie Simms. All of them were very precious to him and he loved them with all his heart. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Emmagene Rogers, and a brother, Ronald Keith Rogers.
Lynn was an active member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Norman, OK. He was a deacon and elder at Memorial Christian Church in Oklahoma City as well as in Norman, and served as president of the congregation at the First Christian Church of Norman, in addition to participating in numerous committees and other church activities.
He loved to fish and hunt, and took many exciting and fun trips with Randy, Bill, Brandon, Gaye, his brother Ellis (“Eli”) and other friends and family over the years, including excursions to Canada, Alaska, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Idaho, and last but certainly not least, to his beloved Broken Bow Lake in southeast Oklahoma. One of his very favorite pastimes was to get up very early in the morning before daybreak and be out on a lake somewhere with a fishing rod in his hand, watching the sun come up, communicating with his maker.
Lynn recently published a book titled, “Favorite Stops on my way to Paradise.” It’s a series of true stories how he’s felt or encountered Heaven and Earth come together throughout his life. Lynn also wants everyone to know his book is available on Amazon.com and is also available at most booksellers!
