Kenneth Ronald Wood

Kenneth Ronald Wood of Pauls Valley was born on July 21, 1942 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Glenn Leslie and Etta Aletha (Simpson) Wood. He passed from this life on October 9, 2019 in his home at the age of 77 years.

Kenneth bounced around many places but called Pauls Valley and Maysville his home. He grew up with 12 other siblings graduating from Pauls Valley High School in 1960. On October 14, 1961, he married the love of his life, Lottie Ann Lehman in Pauls Valley. He worked in the newspaper business for 50 years starting as a paperboy at the Pauls Valley Democrat, being the editor of the Wynnewood Gazette and owner and publisher of The Maysville News and Stratford Star. He retired from the newspaper business and Pauls Valley State School in 2008. His passion turned to small engine repair after retirement when he started working on lawn mowers, weed eaters, and other small engines.

Kenneth was a handyman and always worked hard to take care of his family. He enjoyed renovating his home, family reunions and grilling burgers for family cookouts. His hobbies included playing washers, dominos and cards, developing his own pictures, gardening, going to garage sales, and driving the backroads. Sophie, his favorite fur baby, kept him company in the house while he loved hanging out with his cats on the back porch and in his workshop. Kenneth will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Kenneth’s survivors include his wife Lottie for 58 wonderful years. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: Kenneth R. Wood, Jr. and wife Kelli and children, Miranda Wood and Trevor Wood all of Belmont, North Carolina. Tracy N. McKeown and husband David and children, Chelsea Timmons and her children Austin, Emery, and Regan; Grace McKeown and Daniel McKeown all of Yukon. Steve Wood and wife Misty and children, Sadie Armstrong and her children, Bentley and Jagg Armstrong; and Aubrey Wood all of Maysville. Cindy Tampkins and husband Keith and children, David Van Dorn, Kaitlyn Murphy and her children, Emory, Ivory and Logan; Jacob Tampkins, and Kaleb Tampkins all of Chickasha. Melissa Walker and husband Rodney and children, Savannah Freeman and Jackson Walker all of Pauls Valley. A sister, Norma Jean Pitz of Richland, Texas and numerous other relatives.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Leslie and Etta Aletha Wood; brothers, Glenn Leslie Wood, Jr., Orville Dale Wood, J.W. (John Williams) Wood, and Clyde Arley Wood; and sisters, Thelma Mae Darter, Matilda Sue Wood, Lou Ellen Wood, Linda Darnel Victor, Patricia Jeanette Wood, Betty Jo Record, and Ruth Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 12, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Maysville with Johnny Bob Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Pauls Valley, OK under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, Oklahoma.
