J. C. Rutledge passed from this life to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 while in his home. He was born on January 1, 1947 in Alex, Oklahoma to Raymond and Leona “Chock” Rutledge where he was the fifth of seven children. Raymond and Chock eventually moved to Lindsay, Oklahoma where they would continue to raise their growing family.
In 1963 he met the love of his life Linda Charlene Orr. In 1965 he would leave Lindsay to join the U. S. Navy where he served until 1967. After leaving the Navy, he went to work in the oilfield in the Lindsay area. J. C. and Linda eventually married on August 27, 1971 in Madill and began a family of their own. The couple had three children beginning with Littie Angel Michelle, Crystal Dawn, and John Charles “Little Jake” Rutledge.
J. C. became a devoted member of the Lindsay Masonic Lodge 248 beginning in 1991. After eight years in the lodge, he became Worshipful Master in 1999 and then again in 2013. J. C. enjoyed serving with the Free Masons and helping them help the Lindsay community any way possible.
In his free time J. C. enjoyed working with the Masonic Lodge, drag racing, working on his dragster, fishing, watching football, pestering Linda, and spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. In December of 2012 J. C. retired from Tucker Construction where he drove a truck for Greg Tucker for many years.
J. C. was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Chock Rutledge of Lindsay; brothers: Doug Rutledge of Binger, Jim Rutledge of Binger, and Gilford Rutledge of Shawnee; nephew Jimmy Rutledge of Lindsay; and his in-laws Charlie and Judy Orr of Maysville.
J. C. is survived by his wife Linda Rutledge of Lindsay, daughters: Michelle Hughes and husband Gordon of Lindsay and Crystal Carroll and Scott of Dibble; son, Jake Rutledge of Lindsay. Brothers: Danny Rutledge and wife Sheila of Lindsay and Russell Rutledge and wife Janelle of Bailey, Colorado; sister Gayla Scheer and husband Gary of Arlington, Texas. Grandson, Kyle Hughes of Lindsay; granddaughters: Kylie Carroll of Stillwater, Rae’anna Hughes of Lindsay, Hae’ly Hughes of Davis, Fallon Bagley of Dibble, and Maddie Shae Carroll of Dibble. Granddaughters: Delaney Rutledge, Kinzey Rutledge, Rowynn Belle Rutledge, and their mother Melissa Rutledge all of Lindsay.
Great granddaughters: Ava Rae Hughes of Lindsay, Hae’dyn Cooper of Maysville, and Julia Walker Rose “JW” Hughes of Davis. Others include a multitude of nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, September 9, 2019 at Erin Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Clay Hicks officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
