James Hardy Morehead

James H. Morehead of Lindsay was born on December 12, 1953 in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Henry Hardy and Mary Lee (Meeker) Morehead. He passed from this life on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 in Lindsay.

James grew up and attended school in Lindsay where he graduated from Lindsay High School in 1972. He continued his education first at East Central University in Ada where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree, then a Master’s Degree from Jones University, and was half-way finished with his Doctorate’s Degree. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. James worked as an EMS instructor and an Air Marshall Paramedic. He loved his family and he had a great sense of humor that everyone appreciated.

Jim accepted Christ into his life at a young age. He loved to study the Bible and discuss it with others, especially John and his mom before she passed away. His favorite preachers to listen to recently have been Dr. Charles Stanley and Dr. David Jeremiah. He looked forward to his Sunday afternoons listening to them with Brenda, Bella, and Josh.

Jim loved his family and loved to pick on every one of them. The nieces and nephews came to realize that they might as well give in to this too. A few important lessons Jim taught his nieces and nephews was to never show that someone got the best of you. Another was that our parents were like bows and that we were like arrows what we achieved would be based on the work we put in and our dedication. Jim was just the fun loving guy that loved to have as much fun as possible.

Jim moved to the Lindsay Place apartments three years ago where he quickly fit right in. The tenants instantly knew that he was exactly what their community was missing, the life of the party. The tenants all knew he viewed them as his extended family which he showed by picking on and giving them a ‘hard’ time. He brought the community together by, leading exercise groups, getting the council to hold regular meetings, organizing lunches with him making the main entrée, to beginning a breakfast to honor all the EMS, police, and firefighters for their service with his famous blueberry pancakes. Jim’s passion for serving others was extraordinary and always a forefront in his life. He started weekly health checks for the tenants putting their minds at ease knowing there was someone there who cared and had their best interest at heart. He was the ‘ resident paramedic’ where he was ‘on call’ all hours of the day and night. When a tenant had an issue or was concerned, Jim was there to check on the tenant and stay with them if they needed further care.

Jim’s family extended past this to the EMS Community. Jim was an icon in the field where he was an EMS educator as well as a paramedic. His time of service to others began at a young age, when he entered the Navy and became a medic, serving his country in the Vietnam War. He later became a paramedic and found his true passion. He had certificates referencing his service for over 20 years in the field in many facets extending from children’s paramedic to life flight. He became a paramedic instructor with the State of Oklahoma and taught countless EMS students. He had many recognitions for going above and beyond the call. This is no surprise as Jim always set his mind to be and achieve the best possible, from completing his masters degree and being halfway through his doctorate degree to achieving the highest belt in Tae Kwon Do. Jim truly set an example for his students and family as what he wanted success for their lives to mirror. As you can see, Jim, has left behind an amazing legacy and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

His survivors include his children, Reuben Morehead and Victoria Morehead.
Siblings: David W. Morehead and wife Michelle, Betty J. Alexander and husband Alvin, Deborah Whitehead, Cathy S. Berg and husband Delbert, Brenda M. Martin, Rebekah L. Duffey and husband Greg, and John M. Morehead.
And numerous nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Hardy and Mary Lee Morehead; brothers, Jack Daniel Morehead and infant brother lost at birth.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm, Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Erin Springs Baptist Church and burial at Green Hill Cemetery, Lindsay under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
