Imogene "Jean" Thomas

Imogene Berkley Thomas was born to William Perry Berkley and Lillie Belle Berkley in Lindsay, Oklahoma, on July 21, 1929.  She attended Lindsay Grade School through the 2^nd grade then moved to Oklahoma City where she attended Wheeler Grade School for the 3^rd grade. Upon completion of the 3^rd grade she moved back to Lindsay to complete her education. 

Imogene met W. C. (Dub) Thomas Jr. after World War II where he served in the Navy.  After a short courtship, they were married on October 19, 1946, in Lindsay, Oklahoma.   Post war was hard for the couple.   They both worked odd jobs until October 19, 1948, when Terry was born.  Seven years later Mike was born to the family.  Dub worked for Garrett Chevrolet in Lindsay as a body mechanic.   Later they went into business for themselves.  Thomas Body Shop was formed and served Lindsay for 30+ years.  Imogene devoted herself to the success of the business doing the books, retrieving vehicle parts and eventually working out in the shop with her husband.

All along Imogene worked for her church and her Lord while being a mom, a Sunday school teacher and a great cook.  She enjoyed reading, traveling, camping and cooking for family and church events.  Thousands of dishes were prepared over the years.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, W. C. Thomas, Jr.; by her parents, Perry and Lillie Belle Berkley of Lindsay; her brother, Wendell Berkley of Longview, Texas; and her sister, Betty Estep of Lindsay; two great granddaughters, Tylar Thomas and Karis Bussard and one great great granddaughter, Kiya Montante.

Imogene is survived by her sons: Terry Thomas and wife, Ann, of Lindsay, Oklahoma and Mike Thomas and wife, Della, of Lindsay, Oklahoma.  Four grandchildren: Brandon Thomas of Lindsay, Oklahoma, Kim Tigert and her husband, Todd, of Lindsay, Oklahoma, Jared Thomas and wife, Stephanie, of Lindsay, Oklahoma and Brandi Bussard and husband, Curtis, of Cherokee, Oklahoma.  17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2024, at Calvary Baptist Church, Lindsay, Oklahoma, with Bro. Brandon Cottrell officiating.  Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Lindsay under the direction of John W.
