Harold Edward “Eddie” Baker, Jr. was born January 19, 1950, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, to Harold E. Baker, Sr. and Juanita (Driskill) Baker. He passed from this earth on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, in Norman, Oklahoma.
The Baker family lived in the Klondike area and Pauls Valley where Eddie attended Jackson Elementary School through the fifth grade, before moving to Enid, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Enid High School in 1968. That same year, Eddie began proudly serving his country in the United States Navy for two stints totaling six years during the Vietnam War Era. He served aboard the USS Ashland LSD-1, the USS Kennedy Aircraft Carrier, and the USS Yosemite. Eddie was especially proud of serving aboard the Ashland, which had been used extensively during World War II. He said it was the worst of conditions aboard the old Ashland, but he had the best of times there.
Eddie’s Navy days were shortened when he was introduced to Judy Beck on May 22, 1975, by his brother, Tim. Six months later he and Judy were married on November 22, 1975, in Maysville, Oklahoma. A son, Race Edward, was born in 1978, followed by son, Rory Paul, in 1984. Eddie worked at the Pauls Valley State School, the Pauls Valley Daily Democrat, Otis Engineering, Cudd Pressure Control, Misco, Arrow Pump, and Red Man oilfield supply stores all in Lindsay, Best Powder Coating in Oklahoma City and spent 14 years working at Curwood, Corp. in Pauls Valley.
Eddie was a devoted Sooner fan for all OU sports, but especially football. When the Sooners played, he was in front of the television or sometimes in person cheering them on. He retired in 2015 from Curwood and greatly enjoyed listening to his rock and Southern rock music on the front porch at home every weekday morning. Saturday mornings were reserved for breakfast at Happy Days in Pauls Valley with Judy, and most likely either Scarlett or Nigel. Then they usually made a run by a couple of yard sales or the thrift store just to “look around.” He loved his family and church family and Sundays found him at Sunday school and worship services. He and Judy enjoyed over forty-six years of love and companionship until his passing.
Eddie was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Juanita Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; two sons, Race Baker and Rory Baker and Bonnie Seymour-Baker, and grandchildren, Nigel Reid and Eddie’s “favorite person” Scarlett Reid, all of Maysville; brother, Tim Baker, of Lamar, Colorado; and sister, Rhonda Phillips, of Harrisonville, Missouri; aunt, Mary Jean Jacobson, of Norman; along with cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends made throughout his lifetime.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2022, at the Maysville Church of Christ, with Mr. Jess Whitlock officiating. Burial will follow in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, Oklahoma.
