Hobert Wayne Lyon

May 1, 1953 – September 12, 2024

Hobert Wayne Lyon was born on May 1, 1953, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to Hobert Lee “Bud” Lyon and Dorothy Jane (Gaither) Lyon. Wayne passed from this life on September 12, 2024 at the age of 71 doing what he enjoyed, playing golf with his buddies, on Arrowhead Golf Course near his home in Eufaula, Oklahoma.

Wayne attended Doyle and Elmore City schools before graduating from Healdton High School in 1971. While attending East Central University and working in Ada, Oklahoma, he met Angela English whom he married on December 15, 1973 in Lindsay, OK. Wayne and Angie lived and raised their family in Lindsay until 2004.

Wayne proudly worked in the oil and natural gas industry for 42 years. He represented the third generation of his family to do so following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He worked as a measurement technician in the Lindsay, Elk City and McAlester areas before his retirement in 2019.

He loved his family and spending time with them whenever possible. One of his greatest joys was spending time on Lake Eufaula, tubing, skiing, and fishing with his kids and grandkids. He got great pleasure from seeing which of them could catch the biggest crappie.

Wayne loved sports of any kind and was always enthusiastic about teaching his children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, or anyone else that would listen to the finer points of the sports they were involved in. He never passed up an opportunity to educate himself about their sport to help them be successful. Wayne could always be counted on to be an enthusiastic fan at any game, concert, recital, meet, or match that any of his family was involved in.

Traveling and experiencing our great nation was something Wayne enjoyed tremendously. He was successful in fulfilling a lifelong goal of visiting all 50 states, coincidentally reaching that 50-state milestone in his 50th year of marriage to Angie last year. He especially loved the 42 years of family ski trips, which included many friends and extended family over years. In retirement Wayne and Angie enjoyed traveling beyond the U.S., taking their adventures abroad. They were looking forward to their next great adventure in Europe just next month.

It came natural to Wayne to mentor those around him, and that is something that he took very seriously. Throughout his life, Wayne tried to be a source of encouragement in the workplace, in sports, and in life to those around him. The area that was most important to him was to lead others to Christ.

Preceding Wayne in death are his parents Bud and Dorothy Lyon, his brother Jack Lyon, and Father and Mother-in-law Loyd and Betty English.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Angie.
