David Charles Clagg

David Charles Clagg was born on September 1, 1923 in Payne, Oklahoma to Herbert and Vernessa (Vawter) Clagg and passed from this life on Sunday, March 4, 2018 in his home, north of Maysville at the age of 94 ½ years.David served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. After he got out of the service he was in the International Harvester farm equipment business in Purcell and relocated to Maysville in 1953. He was a longtime business man who owned the Maysville Farm Store and was also a farmer/rancher. David married Shirley Jackson on October 17, 1943 at Dibble in a double wedding ceremony and after 68 years of marriage she preceded him in death in 2012. He loved his family and having everyone together on holidays and celebrations. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. David loved his church family and was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church since 1953. He served as a longtime deacon, church treasurer, and served as Sunday School Director and taught Training Union classes. He also served as a Maysville School Board member and also served as a member of the American Legion for 62 years. David will be greatly missed by his family and friends.His survivors include his son, Keith Clagg and wife Janice of Maysville.Daughters: Sherry Springfield and husband Walt of Choctaw; Sheryl Kennedy and husband Tony of Edmond; and Sonya Brooks and husband Mike of Maysville.Grandchildren: Amy Sikes and husband Tim of Choctaw; Leslie Hollis and husband Barry of Decatur, Texas; Tracey Clagg and wife Kimberly of Maysville; Stewart Kennedy and wife Casey of Edmond; Robyn Reid and husband David of Choctaw; Shelby Dutton and husband Randy of Bartlesville; Kecia Burrows and husband Doug of Fitzhugh; Misty McCurtain and husband Kyle of Lone Grove; Taima Beam and husband Paul of Pampa, Texas; Erin Austin and husband Jon of Louisville, Kentucky; and Trenton Brooks and wife Kelsey of JBER, Alaska.30 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.Sisters: Evalena Ballard of Yukon, Lillian Murray of Wayne, and Anna Baker of Wayne.David was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Vernessa Clagg; wife Shirley Clagg; and brothers, Phillip Clagg and Isaac Clagg; and a sister Naomi Henderson.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at the First Baptist Church, Maysville, OK with Rev. Travis Wollenberg and Stewart Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
