Charles Garner

Charles Garner was born on December 29th, 1936, to Mrs. Irene Garner of Maysville, Oklahoma.   Charles passed from this life on January 26th, 2024, at the age of 87.

Charles was raised on a farm off Story Road and spent much of his early years raising livestock and farming land with his Grandfather Roscoe Horsley.  As a young man, Charles was an active member in FFA winning numerous awards with his pigs in various shows across Oklahoma.  Charles attended Story School and graduated from Maysville High School.  He was active in basketball and baseball famously throwing a no hitter in the Oklahoma Fastpitch softball championship.

After High School, Charles attended Oklahoma A&M and then returned to Story Road to continue the family farming business.  

Charles met the love of his life Patsy Woods from Pauls Valley and they were married on April 8th, 1962.  They had two children and continued to actively farm until the mid 70’s when Charles began his construction business in the oilfield industry.

Charles’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, boating, camping in Colorado, trap shooting and above all, spending quality time with his family.  Charles was an involved Sunday School teacher and enjoyed teaching young adults about the value of his faith and Christianity.  Charles was known for his quick wit and humor.  He was considered by many to be a world class conversationalist.  He was a loved Grandfather affectionally known as Poppa.  A loved husband, father and friend known by many in the Maysville community as Cactus Jack.

Charles was preceded in death by his Mother Irene and his loving wife Patsy Dee of Maysville.

Survivors include his 2 sons; Sam Garner of Maysville and Jim and Lorri Garner of Bethany, OK.  2 Grandchildren;  Peyton and Koltan Swadley of Oklahoma City, Tyler Garner of Bethany.   Adopted Son Justin and Toni Wall of Sacramento.  Dalton Wilson of Purcell.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kindful and Choice Hospice for their loving care as well as all of the friends and family that have meant so much to Charles over the years.

A celebration of Life will be held on March 2nd, 2024 at 1 pm. at the Abundant Love Fellowship Church  located at 1103 12th St.  Maysville, OK. 73057.  Services under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma.  Words of comfort may be sent to the family on this website.
