Carlene Faye McCaskill

December 29, 1942 — July 29, 2018

Carlene Faye (Kittrell) McCaskill entered this life on December 29, 1942 born in the family home near Elmore City, Oklahoma to Cecil T. And Nettie F. (Herriage) Kittrell and departed this life for her long awaited eternal home above on July 29, 2018 in Wichita Falls, Texas with her family by her side.
Except for a brief time living in Phoenix, Arizona as a toddler, Elmore City was home for her and her family until moving to Maysville in 1959 and graduating from Maysville High School in 1960. Her Maysville High School commerce teacher, Chester Wohl, recognized her excellent business skills and 100% accuracy typing scores and recommended her for an immediate position at the First National Bank in Maysville after her high school graduation. However instead of going into the workforce, Carlene married Burl McCaskill in Maysville, Oklahoma on November 26, 1960 with the ceremony performed by Brother Winston Foster in the Foster residence living room. Carlene worked keeping cotton weights for local farmers to buy her wedding dress. Burl and Carlene made their home in Lindsay, Oklahoma until they moved to their current residence 4 miles south of Maysville in 1973. Carlene was an immaculate housewife and waxed and buffed her wood floors weekly before she got her beloved gold shag carpet in 1973 that she kept raked perfectly. Carlene was a wonderful daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and cousin to many while fiercely loyal and protective of her family and loved each dearly. A wonderful seamstress, she cut fabric and sewed clothing for many nieces and nephews and maternity clothes for other family members. Also with a generous heart, she often compromised herself to give finances, garden produce, and her time to relatives and friends if she knew they were in need. She financed much of her sons college expenses working at the International Rodeo Association in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma in memberships and later as secretary at a local oil company to supplement the family income to support 2 sons in college. Carlene was a very gifted Alto Gospel singer and sang for many funerals in her lifetime. Finances weren’t available in her younger years so instead of paying for piano lessons, she bought a $50.00 upright piano and self-taught herself to play hymns. Although never one to brag about her Christianity or anything else, she was not ashamed of her strong religious and political beliefs and could field a robust debate on either subject when the need presented itself. Carlene was a long time member of the Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church in Purcell, Oklahoma as she was a true Christian in every sense of the word and loved the Lord and her fellow man with all of her heart.

Carlene is survived by her husband of 57 ½ years, Burl McCaskill of the home, son Don McCaskill of Wichita Falls, Texas and son Dr. Jim McCaskill of Norman, Oklahoma. Grandchildren: Lacie McCaskill of Lindsay, OK; Brandon (Kortney) McCaskill of Maysville, OK; Jordan Jenkins (Brent) of Purcell, OK; Madison McCaskill, Maitlyn McCaskill, and Matthew McCaskill all of Norman, OK; as well a great grandson Wyatt McCaskill of Maysville, OK. Carlene is also survived by a sister Judy (Sam) Henry of Maysville, OK; brother Gary (Kay) Kittrell of Maysville, OK; brother Ted (Debbie) of Purcell, OK; and sisters-in-law, Aleyne Tomlinson of Lindsay, OK and Mary McCaskill of Elmore City, OK and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Carlene was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Nettie Kittrell and brothers, Donald, Stanley, and Timothy.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at the Antioch Cemetery with Elder Mike Hughes officiating. Burial will be under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com.
