Bruce Evans peacefully passed into God's loving arms in his home surrounded by family on the evening of December 11, 2022.
Bruce was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon K. Evans. He leaves behind two sons, Karl Evans and wife Brandi of Newcastle, OK, Daniel Evans and wife Tracy of Lindsay OK; two sisters, Arlene Lawley of Dallas, TX, Joyce Courtright of Tulsa, OK; six grandchildren, Jordon Darr and husband Jon of Choctaw, OK, Shellby Hyde and husband Jon of Lindsay, OK, Lauren Evans of Oklahoma City, OK, Lyndon Evans of Newcastle OK, Haydon Evans of Lindsay, OK, Kambri Evans of Lindsay, OK; and one great grandchild, Ryker Hyde.
Bruce Cecil Evans was born on May 2nd, 1935 in his parent’s home, just a half mile east of the Garvin/Grady County line between Lindsay and Cox City, Oklahoma. Bruce was a devoted husband of 59 years to Sharon Evans. He was the best dad and papa and will be missed very much.
Bruce attended early educational classes in the two-room schoolhouse of Rounds Creek, he later attended and graduated from high school in Lindsay Oklahoma. Bruce attended Cameron University for two years and then enlisted in the Army. He served a two-year rotation between 1958 and 1960 in Germany. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Bruce started working in the oilfield service industry.
While working in the Pampa area of West Texas, he came across a lovely and talkative young lady that was waiting tables in her parents’ restaurant in Skellytown. Her name was Sharon Jordan. After a quick courtship, they were married on December 15, 1960 in Pampa, Texas.
In November of 1962, Bruce and Sharon moved back to Bruce’s family homestead to begin their own family and run the Evans farm. While working the farm, he also began to drive tanker trucks for Wanda Petroleum in Maysville Oklahoma. Bruce continued to drive commercial semi-trucks while operating the family farm for the rest of his working career which ended with his retirement from Yellow Freight in 2007 at the age of 72.
Bruce enjoyed working with his family on the farm. He took pride in instilling a solid work ethic into his two sons. There were many days of building fences and plowing fields. Later in life, he enjoyed having fun with his grandkids, while still showing them what a solid day of work looked like well into his 70s. He always enjoyed family and checking on his cows.
Bruce was considered somewhat stoic, unless you wanted to talk machinery….in which case, he would happily go on discussing motors, transmissions, and various other parts of many types of motorized equipment in significant depth. Bruce was a calm, witty man of few words, which made his dry sense of humor even more poignant.
He loved his wife Sharon very much and was able to join with her again in the everlasting on December, 11 2022.
