Betty Sue Kelly passed from this life on Monday, February 7, 2022 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 75 years having just celebrated her birthday on December 20, 2021.
Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Scott Ferguson and her beloved grandson, Michael Baird Ferguson all of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by her brother, Clfford “Woots” Kelly and his wife, Carol of Lindsay and her dear Aunt Marietta Walden of Ada. She also leaves behind nieces, nephews, many cousins, other relatives, and a tremendous group of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Lula Mae (Savage) Kelly and her beloved Grannie Savage.
She attended school through 8th grade here in Erin Springs in a small school house where there was a superintendent and 2 or 3 teachers. She always spoke of her time there as very special; as can be imagined, the superintendent, teachers, and students were a close-knit group.
She then attended Lindsay High School graduating in May of 1965 with a new group of special friends. Very soon thereafter, she and a girlfriend left Lindsay for Oklahoma City where she attended and graduated from Oklahoma School of Banking and Business. She remained an OKC resident for the rest of her life. However, she often returned to Erin Springs to visit her parents and to Lindsay to visit her Grannie, other relatives, and friends.
She continued to maintain her school friendships as well as those developed during her careers at B. C. Clark Jewelry and the OU Health Sciences Center. When she retired from OU on June 30, 2012 after 23 years, there was a tremendous outpouring of well-wishers at her retirement reception. Once Betty met a person, she was never forgotten nor did she ever forget the person!
Betty loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandson, Michael. She also enjoyed collecting cookbooks, shopping on QVC, traveling, and going out with her friends. She was always in for a dinner out with friends and/or family. She often said, “Just tell me where, I’ll drive anywhere!”
She looked forward to school reunions and tried to get as many of them as possible to attend. Sometimes she was the chief organizer of the reunion. She never tired of reminiscing with and visiting with friends.
