Bertha M. Gilley of Lindsay, formerly of Memphis, Tennessee was born on January 19, 1943 to Raymond and Madgeline (Adkins) McDowell and passed from this life on Sunday, October 14, 2018 in her home at the age of 75 years.
Bertha was raised in Kentucky and married Edward Reed Gilley on October 21, 1961 in Ashland, Kentucky. She was a seamstress by trade and made all of her granddaughter’s dresses for them. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, especially orchids, and reading. Bertha was a very hospitable person who could plan and host a meal for her family and church family in very little time. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall in Memphis, Tennessee. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Her survivors include her husband, Edward Reed Gilley of the home.
Daughters: Beverly Olive Ligion of Midwest City and Sondra Adams and husband Buddy of Lindsay.
Sons: Raymond Edward Gilley and wife Colleen of Senatobia, Mississippi and Steven Eugene Gilley of Olive Branch, Mississippi.
A brother, Tom Raymond McDowell of Grayson, Kentucky and sister, Marie Blevins of Hanging Rock, Ohio.
And 11 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Madgeline McDowell; a sister, Cora; and brother, Mac McDowell.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, October 27, 2018 in the Kingdom Hall, 4431 Tutwiler, Memphis, Tennessee with Brother Brad Behnes officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
