Barbara Lou Shepherd-Jenkins was born on December 11, 1930, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Arthur and Mary (Schlegel) Garton and passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, in Moore, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years.

As a child Barbara moved from Wyoming to Oklahoma, carrying with her a cigar box of rattlesnakes’ tails and a single toy. Barbara graduated from Piedmont High School where she played basketball and was named All District. There were six women in her graduating class and one man. She caught and married that man, Lloyd Shepherd, on November 2, 1948. They lived happily in Maysville, OK. where they raised their four sons on their farm. They enjoyed 60 happy years of marriage, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Barbara enjoyed cooking and was a fabulous cook. She worked many years as a cook in the school system. She fed thousands of hot, homemade school lunches to the children. After Lloyd's passing in 2008, she moved from the farm to Moore, OK. where she met and married Gary Jenkins on August 18, 2012. Barbara will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Survived by: husband, Gary Jenkins of Moore, Oklahoma; sister: Mary Lea Wishon of Edmond, Oklahoma; sons: Kenny Shepherd and Kelley of Moore, Oklahoma, Dennis Shepherd and Marla of Moore, Oklahoma, Steve Shepherd and Dawn of Gainesville, Texas, and Ricky Shepherd and Michelle of Newcastle, Oklahoma; step-children: Cliff Jenkins and Lisa of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Steven Jenkins and Terri of Connecticut; step-daughter: Belinda West and John of Sulphur, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Kyle and Tiffani Shepherd, Greg Shepherd, Eric Shepherd, Clint and Elise Shepherd, Shane and Krystle Shepherd, Lauren and Joshua Gomez, Shelby Shepherd, Sydney Shepherd, Jordan Shepherd and Jaxon, Chrisy and Mark Hernandez, April and Rudolpho Ruiz, Nathan and Heather Angel; step-grandchildren: Dylan Finley and Ian Finley, Ashley West, Sonya West, Nickie West, Amber Swenson, Hailey Rivera, Zachary Jenkins, and Abby Jenkins; great-grandchildren: Luke, Kensley, Nicole, Otto, Scarlett, Judson, and McCoy Shepherd, Julian and Tyson Gomez, Erin, Elisa, Mark, Michael, Riley, Lillian, Kennedy, Nash, Luke, and soon-to-be Scottie May; 6 great-step-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchild, Hattie Jo.

Preceded by: her parents, Arthur and Mary Garton; husband, Lloyd Shepherd; brother: Bob Garton; and sister-in-law: Thelma Garton.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Church of Christ in Maysville, Oklahoma. Burial at Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home in Maysville, Oklahoma. Words of comfort may be sent to the family on this website.
