Wavalene Opal Farmer of Maysville was born on January 1, 1934 in West Union, West Virginia to Calvin and Rada (Ratcliff) Friend. She passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 in Edmond, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years. Wavalene was a graduate of West Union High School. She worked as a seamstress in the Harrisville Garment Factory. She married Martis Herbert “Curly” Farmer, Jr. on November 2, 1976 in West Virginia and they lived in Denim Springs, Louisiana before moving to Maysville in 1983. Wavalene loved spending time with her family and cooking for them. She enjoyed Facebook, working in her flower beds, doing floral arrangements, listening to her scanner, doing crafts, talking politics, and spending time with her beloved dogs, Maddy Jo and Ugly. Wavalene was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Her survivors include her daughter, Alfreda Rae Holbert Penry and husband Michael of Maysville. A son, Randall Gaston and wife Marion of Harrisville, West Virginia. Grandchildren: Shellie Holbert, Jeremy Holbert and wife Amber, Tara Johnson and husband Michael, Lori Holbert and Isaiah Stewart, Amanda Testeman, and Randall Gaston, Jr. Great Grandchildren: Allyn Michael, Kortney and husband Brandon, Baylee, Jarron, Kieran, Jacy, Bubba, Bella, Colton, Payton, Ryan, Tayia, Kyler, McKenna, Kayla, Jordan, and expecting one great-great grandchild. Wavalene was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Rada Friend; husband, Martis “Curly” Farmer; brothers, Everett Friend and Louie Friend; sister, Laura Mae Powell; and a nephew, Gary Powell. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the First Assembly of God Church, Maysville, OK with Bro. David Flanary officiating. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
