Vonita Joy Ledgerwood Burford

Vonita Joy Ledgerwood Burford was born August 27, 1932, in Maysville OK to Elsie and O.L. Ledgerwood, and passed through heaven’s gates to her eternal reward on Tuesday, June 21, 2016. Joy graduated Pauls Valley High in 1951, when she was chosen the school’s homecoming queen, and she lived in Oklahoma until 1967. Joy resided in Dallas, TX from 1967-1994, returning to Oklahoma to care for her dear mother. Joy was an avid birder, routinely travelling across town and beyond for “bird alerts” to catch a glimpse of one of God’s creatures of the air. Indeed, Joy’s own flight through life was sustained by her knowledge of Scripture and strong faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, by her beloved brother, Leslie Bryant Ledgerwood, and by her son, Charles E. Burford II. She is survived by Lisa Ann Burford Fullington and husband Richard of Richardson, TX, Elizabeth Burford Langford and husband Britt of The Woodlands, TX, daughter-in-law Erica Driemeyer Burford of McKinney, TX, grandchildren Robert Brooks Langford of Austin, TX, Elizabeth Brynn Langford of Burbank, CA, and Amanda Leigh Burford of McKinney, TX, nieces Taryn Ledgerwood Butler of Winston-Salem, NC and Andrea Ledgerwood McMahon of Charlotte, NC, and nephew Brett Carter Ledgerwood of Winston-Salem, NC. Joy’s family is especially grateful to dear friend Bob Horton and his wife Bernita of Ada, OK for their extraordinary and continual acts of kindness over many years of friendship with Joy. A celebration of Joy’s life and salvation is planned for Saturday, June 25, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Maysville OK, with interment following at Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John W.
