Max Melvin Walck, Sr.

Max Melvin Walck, Sr. of Payne was born on July 22, 1929 at Payne, Oklahoma to Floyd Walck and Edith (Baker) Walck. He passed from this life on Friday, September 11, 2015 in Lindsay at the age of 86 years. Max was a lifetime resident of Payne and while growing up he attended school in Payne and Wayne. He married Barbara Jean Cariker on November 22, 1948 in Gainesville, Texas. He liked gardening, canning, farming, and cotton was his livelihood. Max was a meticulous man who washed and waxed his tractors and enjoyed raising cattle. He loved his family and having meals as a family. Papa Max, as he was known to all of his grandchildren, enjoyed his children and grandchildren and loved to pester them. He always took care of Barbara during her illnesses and she took care of him during his Alzheimers. Max was instrumental in beginning the Payne Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Payne Baptist Church and was on the Wayne Cotton Gin Board for 21 years. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His survivors include his wife of 66 years, Barbara of the home. Sons: Melvin Walck of Beeville, Texas; James Walck and wife Ida of Payne; and Larry Walck and fiancee Rita of Oklahoma City. Daughters: Diana Blankenship and husband Thomas of Payne; Linda Dorman and husband Allen of Purcell; and Sheila Little and husband Mark of El Reno. A sister, Wanda Gray of Maysville. Sister-in-law, Berleta Walck of Payne. 20 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. and a host of other relatives. Max was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Billy and Vance Walck; sisters Juanita Carter and Oleta Randall; and a great granddaughter, Jezreel Herr. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Erin Springs Baptist Church, Lindsay with Brother Earl Perry and Rev. Clay Hicks officiating. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery, Lindsay under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
