Oleta Banks Hoover of Lubbock, Texas was born on December 4, 1933 in Lindsay, Oklahoma to Orville Lee Banks and Willie Elizabeth (Hill) Banks. She passed away on Monday, August 31, 2015 in her home at the age of 81 years. Oleta attended Sulphur Schools at a young age before moving to Lindsay. She married John Hoover on January 26, 1951 and he preceded her in death on February 17, 1999. She loved her family and was always taking care of them and cooking. Oleta was a second mother to her sister, Virginia. She enjoyed watching game shows, cooking, and canning. A big smile would always come on her face when her grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. Oleta loved to talk on the phone with her family and friends, and enjoyed traveling with her grandchildren. She liked to fish but wasn’t a good fisherman, yet could clean them like a professional. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bosque Farms. She was also affiliated with the Senior Citizens in Bosque Farms, New Mexico, the VFW Post # 9168 Ladies Auxiliary of Lewisville, Texas, and the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion - Conchas Dam, New Mexico. Oleta will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her son, Darryl Hoover of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Daughters: Lisa Pruitt and husband Tim of Los Lunas, New Mexico; Sheila Hoover of Lubbock, Texas; and Pam Puryear and husband Rich of Lubbock, Texas. A sister, Virginia Cruzan and husband Boyce of Tuttle. Grandchildren: Tammy Brewer and husband Phillip; Jonathan Pruitt, Destiny Puryear, and Brittany Puryear. Great grandchildren: Ashley Brewer, Ashton Pruitt, Addison Brewer, and Emmagail Brewer. Oleta was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, J. C. Banks, Otho Banks, and Billy Ray Banks; sisters, Inez Newton and Geneva Gordon. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Meals on Wheels. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Winans Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, September 4, 2015 at Winans Funeral Chapel, Maysville with Rev. John Griffith officiating. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery, Lindsay, Oklahoma under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
