Marvin "Bill" Kenneth Ward

Marvin Kenneth “Bill” Ward was born on October 24, 1923 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Silas W. and Leora Orlean (Looney) Ward. He passed from this life on Friday, July 24, 2015 at his home in Elmore City, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years and 9 months surrounded by his family. Bill married Mavis Murl Pickens on June 15, 1945. He lived in Garvin County his entire life residing primarily in the Wynnewood, Maysville, and Elmore City area. He was an avid farmer from a very young age and loved the land; he enjoyed fishing, and could always be found outdoors. He also worked as a carpenter, building several homes in and around the Maysville and Elmore City areas, and for several years tended cattle for Jack Hammer. Bill’s family was the world to him and he loved them dearly and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by one son, Kenneth Ward of Elmore City; one daughter, Mary Ann Ward of the home; two granddaughters, Danielle O’Neal and Regina Ream; one great-granddaughter, Breanna Ward; two great-grandsons, Jonathan Ward and Zackary Ream; one brother, Daniel C. Ward and his wife Frances of Meeker; three sisters, Minnie Jane Heard of Del City; Gracie Johnson of Elmore City; Hazel Carroll of Edmond, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Silas W. and Leora Ward; his wife, Mavis; one daughter, Shirley Ann Ward; one grandson, Jason Todd Ward; one brother, Melvin Ward; and four sisters, Ollie Benthall, Susie Miller, Margie Dennis, and Wanda Blake. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Elmore City with Rev. Tim Duncan officiating. Burial will be in the Katie Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, Oklahoma. Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
