Elmer Gene Selman of Lindsay was born December 8, 1929 in Pauls Valley, OK to Oscar Leroy Selman and Audrey (Steele) Selman. He passed from this life on Friday, January 9, 2015 in Lindsay at the age of 85 years. Gene graduated from Elmore City High School. He met Phyllis Colleen Smith at Crabtree Drug in Pauls Valley and married her 6 weeks later on June 28, 1950. They lived in Maysville until 1953 when they moved to Lindsay where they resided for the next 61 years. Gene was a carpenter who owned and operated his own business, Selman Construction, doing work for commercial and residential. He enjoyed square dancing and waltzing. Gene, who was an excellent cook, enjoyed gardening and giving his vegetables away to his family and friends. Pepaw, as he was known, loved spending time with his granddaughter and great grandchildren, he would say, they kept him young. Gene was an honest man who never met a stranger and had a smart business mind. He could always be heard whistling. He was affiliated with the Baptist church. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his son, Rick Selman of Lindsay. A daughter, Phyllis Clarice Getter of Tulsa. Granddaughter, Darci Shae Henderson and 3 great grandchildren, Shelah Dawn Hines, James Jeremiah Hines, and Ivy Mae Henderson. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Colleen Selman; son-in-law Scott Getter; and a sister, Georgia Reiser. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, January 16, 2015 in the Maysville Cemetery with Pastor Greg Ball officiating.
