Irwin (Irv) Franklin Brotman was born December 21, 1927 in Passaic, New Jersey. He has two step-brothers, Harold "Buddy" Farancz and Alan Farancz. On August 21, 1949, he married Rachel Passman in Los Angeles, California and to this union was born three sons, Fred, Dennis, and Steven. On July 6, 1974, Irv married Susan Teel in Los Angeles and joined Susan and her daughter, LaRea. They moved to Red Bluff, California in 1993 and eventually followed LaRea and her family to Maysville, Oklahoma, where they spent many happy years together. After Sue's death in 2012, Irv spent his remaining time residing in Mena, Arkansas near his special companion, Dannie Bregman. Like most young American men, Irv joined the military service during WWII. He left the Navy in 1951 and settled in Los Angeles for 45 years. He was an engineer and worked at Hughes Aircraft Company. In the 50's his hobby was ham radios. K6MLJ was his handle and he spent many happy hours talking with people from all over the world. Irv was an engineer by trade, but a Numismatist by love. He was an author and loved to share his extensive knowledge of coins with all. He wrote numerous articles for newspapers, magazines, and trade publications, and was president of many coin related organizations throughout the years. Irv is survived by his three sons; two daughters-in-law; one step-daughter and her husband; eight lovely grandchildren; and many, many, many friends he made along the way. Irv passed away peacefully on the morning of June 21, 2014, at Mena Manor, in Mena, Arkansas. May he rest in peace. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Winans Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
