Betty Ann Bettis, wife of former Maysville mail carrier Ed Bettis, passed away early Sunday morning, February 9th, 2014 in Weatherford, Texas. She was 86 years old. Betty was born in Pitcher, Oklahoma, November 19, 1927, the third child of Charles Edward Wasson and Mary Emmaline Collier Wasson. Mary died when Betty was nine months old. During the difficult years of the Great Depression, Charles struggled to keep his family together, finally sending Betty and her older sister to live with relatives near Chandler. Betty was eleven years old, and recounts happy years living and working on a successful farm. When she was seventeen, Betty met Thomas Edward Bettis, a returning WW II Purple Heart veteran. They married October 13th, 1945. In 1947, their son Tommy Allen was born, followed by Karen Sue one year later. The family moved to Maysville in 1950. Both Tom and Sue graduated from Maysville High School in the mid-sixties. Ed and Betty remained in Maysville until they moved to Weatherford, Texas, in 2002 to be close to their son Tom. Betty was a dedicated wife and homemaker, a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. An outstanding seamstress, she used her needlework skills to make wedding dresses for her daughter, daughter in law, niece Priscilla and grand-daughters Brenda and Sheila Huey. She made quilts and dozens of outfits for all her grandchildren and many of her great-grandchildren. For many years, relatives from around the country gathered at Ed & Betty’s farm for family reunions. Betty was preceded in death by her daughter Karen Sue Huey in 2001 and by her husband Thomas Edward Bettis in 2004, as well as her father Charles Wasson, her brother Lloyd Wasson and sister Elsie Robertson.
