Norman Lee Baughn was born on February 9, 1935 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Revis Loie and Ruby Hill Baughn. He passed away on Monday, November 25, 2013 at his home in Erin Springs at the age of 78 years. Norman was a longtime resident of the Lindsay area, coming here to work as a pumper for Mobil Oil Company and retiring in 1995. He also worked for Humble Oil in Fittstown and B.J. Trucking in Lindsay. Norman purchased Big John’s drive-in in Maysville from Jackie Trammel, and he and his wife, Johna Beth operated it until it closed in 1994. Norman was presently leased as a hot shot for Tilley Trucking in Marlow. He enjoyed family dinners and spending time with his grandchildren. He liked watching OSU, Dallas Cowboys, and Thunder ballgames. He enjoyed fishing in ponds, striper fishing, and going to the coffee shop every day at the “Gab-N-Go”, also known as the Gas’N’Go. He loved eating ice cream and he loved to drive. He married Lorene Hamilton, whom he loved very much, on November 27, 1992 at the First Baptist Church in Velma. He accepted Lorene’s children as his own and they had very happy times. He was known as “Pappy” to his grandchildren. Norman was member of the Erin Springs Baptist Church. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His survivors include his wife, Lorene Baughn of the home. Step-sons: Greg Oxford and wife Cathy of Skiatook; Kevin Myers and wife Angie of Edmond; and Steve McKinzie of Erin Springs. Step-daughters: Michele Matthews and husband Jeff of Edmond; Lisa Cary and husband John of Bartlesville; Gay Lyle of Marlow; and Kay McKinzie of Marlow. Brothers: Carl Baughn and wife Judy of Midwest City and Phil Baughn and wife Jeanie of Marlow. Grandchildren: Danyele Minton, Tiffani Shepherd, and one great grandson, Luke Shepherd, Aaron Oxford, Christopher Oxford, Chase Matthews, Josh Matthews, Tate Matthews, Georgia Matthews, Alex Cary, Ava Cary, Sydney Myers, Tyce Myers, Gates Lyle, Kennedy McKinzie, Norman was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Keith Baughn; and daughter, Vickey Baughn, and his wife, Johna Beth Baughn. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, November 29, 2013 at Erin Springs Baptist Church with burial in the Green Hill Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
