Myrtle Vendeline Peterman

June 24, 1925 — May 5, 2013

Myrtle Vendeline Peterman of Maysville passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at her home at the age of 87 years. She was born on June 24, 1925 in Butterfield, Minnesota to Bernhard Derksen and Elizabeth (Thiessen) Derksen. Myrtle came to Oklahoma in 1951 and has lived in Maysville since 1967. She worked for Pauls Valley Linen and substituted at Maysville Schools, where the children loved having her as their teacher. She had also owned and operated the County Line Store, north of Maysville. Myrtle enjoyed playing the piano, singing, and being the church pianist. She also played the accordion. She enjoyed quilting, picking blackberries, gardening, and canning from her garden. Myrtle had a passion for auctions and garage sales. She attended all the Maysville basketball games she could, and was a big fan of OU and enjoyed watching OU sports. Myrtle was a member of the Love Baptist Church. Grandma Pete, as she was known by all, will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Her survivors include her sons: Jim Krause and wife, Ruth of Victoria, Texas; Marlin Krause and wife, Claudia of Ada; and Thomas Stephens and wife, Charlotte of Maysville. Daughters: Jean Koehn and husband, Larry of Ft. Cobb; and Nan Burrows and husband, Dan of Maysville. 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Bernhard and Elizabeth Derksen; husbands, Jacob Krause, Thomas Stephens, Jr., and L. M. “Pete” Peterman; brothers, Clarence Derksen and Leslie Derksen. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Winans Funeral Home, Maysville. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Maysville with Rev. Mark Frost officiating. Burial will be in the Paoli Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
