John "Roscoe" Williams of Maysville passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Purcell, OK at the age of 91 years. He was born on September 16, 1921 in Loving, Oklahoma to John and Bessie Mae (Bottoms) Williams. Roscoe grew up in the Loving Community in Southeastern Oklahoma. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Phillipines, Australia, and New Guinea. In 1945 he moved to Crossville, Illinois to work for Warren Petroleum. While living there, he met and married Rosemary Ann Taylor on September 15, 1945. They lived there until 1949 when he was transferred with the company to Maysville. Roscoe worked the tank car loading rack for 38 ½ before retiring. He was very proud of his Choctaw Heritage. He enjoyed garage sales, collecting antiques and guns, playing horseshoes, fishing, and hunting. Roscoe loved people and was always ready to visit with everyone. He liked baseball and spent many evenings watching and coaching summer little league baseball. He enjoyed watching the grandchildren growing up and getting established in their careers and spending time with the great grandchildren. As a young man, he was baptized in Loving’s creek, and was currently a member of the First Baptist Church of Maysville. He will be dearly missed by all of his family and the many friends that he had made throughout the years. His survivors include his wife of 67 years, Rosemary of Purcell. A son, John Robert Williams and wife Bobby Lou of Maysville. Brother-in-law, Curtis Kelly of Hodgen, Oklahoma. Sister-in-law, Ramona Timmons of Merritt Island, Florida. Grandchildren: John Winans Williams and wife Theresa of Maysville; Brad Williams and wife Jerri of Edmond; Libby Thomas and husband Tim of Nashville, Tennessee. Great grandchildren: Connor and John Ross Williams; Molly and Rian Williams; and Peri and Cedar Thomas. And a host of nieces and nephews. Roscoe was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Williams; a son, Ricky Williams; sister, Jewel Dean Kelly; and a brother Bob Williams. The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 745, Maysville, OK 73057 Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Winans Funeral Home Chapel in Maysville, OK.
