Weda James White

Weda James (Burden) White was born on November 4, 1929 in Altus, Oklahoma to Steve and Rubye (Antle) Burden. She was their only child. She passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 83 years. Weda graduated from Altus High School in 1947. She went to Nurses Training School in Dallas, Texas for 6 months before dropping out due to being home sick. She married Donald “Don” White on March 19, 1949 in Vernon, Texas. Weda graduated from East Central State College in 1950, attended Altus Junior College, then received her teaching degree. She taught business classes at Hughes Consolidated and a short term at Maysville High School. She retired from teaching to stay at home to raise their two children. They raised their two children, Donece and Kelly in the church. We are proud of their faithfulness in the cause of the Lord. Don and Weda moved to Purcell in 2001 to be closer to their children and to take care of Don’s mother, Ruby White. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Don of the home. Daughter, Donece Harper and husband Steve of Wayne. Son, Kelly White and his wife Donna of Oklahoma City. Grandchildren: Mary Diaz; Joe Don Harper and wife Kristen; Brett and wife Mary; and Lindsey Johns and husband Luke. A great grandson, David Diaz. Weda was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Jason Newberry; and a great grandson, Kevin Diaz. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the Church of Christ in Maysville with Danny Carter officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
