Reva Adelia Melton of Maysville passed away at Norman Speciality Hospital on Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the age of 95. She was born September 10, 1917 in Stratford, Oklahoma to Bryant David Duncan and Bertie Mae (Clubb) Duncan. Reva graduated from East Central University in May 1940 with a B. S. degree. She married William “Bill” George Melton in 1941 and they moved to Maysville in 1948. She taught school for 36 ½ years, retiring in 1979. Since 1948 she has been an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Maysville and loved telling everyone she was the oldest member of that congregation. Her greatest joys were her family and friends and she had a special love for each in her own special way. At the age of 90 she wrote her own autobiography, “My Life As I Remember It” and shared her memories with her family and friends. After retirement she did volunteer work by delivering meals to shut-ins and recently she asked her home health nurse to delivery some of her clothing to “those Old people” in the nursing home - at the age of 95 she continued to help others. Reva was a member of the Eastern Star and a retired member of the OEA. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Her survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Mike Webster of Norman. Granddaughters: Julie Webster of Cambridge, MA and Tara Melton of Los Cruces, New Mexico. Grandsons: Kelly Webster of Norman and Brandon Melton and wife Jana of Lewisville, Texas. Step granddaughter, Cheryl Van Tuyl of Auburn, Alabama. Step grandson, Lyn Melton of Miami, OK. Daughter-in-law, Audrey Cordova Melton of Pecos, New Mexico and Step daughter-in-law, Bonnie Melton of Miami, OK. Sister-in-law, Octavia Duncan of Seminole, OK. Nieces: Carol Camber and husband Gerald; Lynda Talkington and husband Jim; Patsy Snyder; Judy Baker; Margo Powell. Nephews: Ben Duncan and wife Alice; Jim Duncan and wife Katie; and Larry Melton. Beloved “sister friend” LaVerne Sykora and Reva’s “girls”, Cindy Wilmot and Cathy Holloway. Reva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; son, Kent; and siblings: Octie Lee Buckner, Bryant Lafayette Duncan (Pete), Myrtice Mae Duncan, James Looney Duncan (Jim). Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, Maysville with Pastor Mike Deviney and Rev. Danny Gamble.
