Mammie Adams Ellithorp-Childress

Mammie Francis Ellithorp Childress of Maysville passed on Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Arbuckle Memorial Hospital in Sulphur at the age of 95. She was born on December 23, 1916 at Maysville, Oklahoma to Jessie Adams and Homer Virgie (Holden) Adams. Mammie attended school in Davis before marrying Verley William “Dee” Ellithorp on November 11, 1931 in Wallville. She worked with her husband farming and ranching for many years until his death in 1984. Mammie was an excellent cook and used her talent of cooking for Hughes School for 11 years and at nursing homes. She was a member of the Hughes Extension Group, Elmore Extension Group, and attended the First Baptist Church of Maysville. On December 21, 1995 Mammie married Marvin Childress and they made their home together in Maysville until Marvin passed away in 2006. Most recently she was living in the Burford Manor Nursing Home in Davis. Mammie will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Survivors include her children: Willie May Brown of Davis; Buddy Ellithorp of Alex; Florene Wenzel of Maysville; and Doris June Rausch and husband Earl of Maysville. Sister, Maggie Kay of Elmore City. Half-brother, Vernon Adams and wife JoAnn of Elmore City. Half-sister, Lula Bell McMillian of Tuttle. And 16 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 48 great-great grandchildren. Mammie was preceded in death by her husbands, Dee Ellithorp and Marvin Childress; a daughter, Maurine Rausch; daughter-in-law, Kate Ellithorp; grandson, Andrew “Andy” Parks; great grandsons: Robbie Foster, Sammie D. Williams, and Verley Riley Williams; sisters and brothers-in law: Minnie and Lowell McCaleb and Bertha and Edgar Ritter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at First Assembly of God Church, Maysville, OK with Rev. Randy Rhea and Rev. Tim Carr officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.winansfuneralhome.com
