Lonzo J. Barnett, 83, of Lawton, formerly of Elmore City passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Lawton - Fort Sill Veterans Center. He was born August 17, 1928 at Dansville, Arkansas to William Jewel Jackson Barnett and Iva Clara (Keener) Barnett. Lonzo was a longtime resident of the Elmore City area. He had served as a guard patrolman in the Army during WW II where he was honored with a Victory Ribbon. Lonzo had worked as a police officer in Kingfisher, Healdton, Elmore City, Wynnewood, and was Chief of Police at Konawa. He loved police work and he served faithfully. Lonzo enjoyed singing, playing the guitar, dancing, and the Oklahoma Opry. He was a member of the Baptist Church. His survivors include his son, Danny Barnett and wife, Pat of Sulphur. Daughter, Freda Ritter of Marlow. Sisters: Dorothy Brantley of Lindsay and Mary Ruth Kiser of Mississippi. 9 Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. And by many other relatives and friends. Lonzo was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Lonza D. Barnett and William Boyd Barnett; daughters, Mary K. Dismuke and Donna E. Bell; wife, Lou Barnett; and the mother of his children Kathleen Jewell Kelly Barnett; brother, William Barnett; sisters, Jean Pratt, Pearl Huffman, and June Sullivan. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 30, 2012 at Winans Funeral Home Chapel, Maysville.
