Dr. W. E. "Bill" Winans

Dr. William Edward “Bill” Winans, Jr. age 68 of Norman, Oklahoma went to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, September 26, 2011. He was born July 12, 1943 in Oklahoma City to William Edward “Tubby”and Bobby (Brown) Winans. Bill grew up in Maysville, graduating from Maysville High School in 1961. In high school he was active in FFA by showing pigs and participating in public speaking contests. Bill was also an Eagle Scout and a member of the DeMolay. He loved his alumni friends from Maysville High School. Bill went on to graduate with a B.A. from the University of Oklahoma. While attending OU, he was president of the OU Baptist Student Union, the State President of BSU, played the organ at the Ming Room in Student Union, and became an avid OU fan. During the summers, he did mission work in Costa Rica and traveled throughout Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico playing the organ for the rodeo circuit, known as “Bill Winans and His Hammond Organ”. Bill went to medical school at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine. He moved to Portland, Oregon for his internship where he resided for the next 40 years. Bill specialized in Emergency Room medicine and had a large practice in family medicine. He had worked as a cruise ship physician and made several trips to Mexico on medical missions. Bill enjoyed photography, bicycling, flying kites on the Oregon beaches, climbing Mt. Hood, fishing the Oregon rivers for salmon, and had a passion for red corvettes. He retired from practicing medicine in 2006 and returned to Oklahoma where he became reacquainted with Wanda Harmon-Springfield who was a class mate since second grade. They married November 10, 2007 and made their home together in Norman, Oklahoma. Bill was saved and baptized in the First Baptist Church of Maysville in April 1952. During his lifetime, he was active in leading men’s prayer breakfasts and Bible studies. Bill, with his wife Wanda, was a member of the Noble Assembly of God Church in Noble. His survivors are his wife, Wanda Winans of Norman. Sister: Bobby Lou Williams and her husband, John of Maysville. Sister-in-law, Trish Harmon of Norman. Nephews and a niece and their families: John and Theresa Williams, Connor and John Ross of Allen, Texas; Brad and Jerri Williams, Molly and Rian of Edmond; Libby and Tim Thomas, Peri and Cedar of Branson, Missouri. And loved by many cousins and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, W. E. “Tubby” and Bobby Winans; and step-son, Scott Springfield. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, October 3, 2011 at Winans Funeral Home Chapel, Maysville with. Wendell Morton and Pastor Steve Lance officiating.
