Eugene Roy Smith

Eugene Roy Smith was born May 16, 1925 at Maysville, Oklahoma to Lee Roy and Johnnie Belle Caton Smith. He died September 24, 2011 at Weatherford, Oklahoma at the age of 86 years. Mr. Smith has lived in this area most of his life. The highlight of his life was his children and family. At a young age he joined the U.S. Army, serving in WWII in the Pacific. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his service to his Country. Gene married Daisy Ellen Norton in 1946. Eugene was a carpenter by trade. On May 4, 1965, he married Alice Smith. Alice preceded him in death last year. Gene enjoyed dancing, playing musical instruments, like guitar, banjo, and mandolin. He also enjoyed fishing and squirrel hunting. His favorite hobby was coffee shop visiting. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church at a young age. Survivors: His mother, Johnnie Smith Biles of PaulsValley, Oklahoma 3 Daughters: Imogene Gage and husband Edward of Helena, Oklahoma; Lois Smith of Ada; and Joyce Rolin of Sulphur. 3 Step-daughters: Mary Smith and husband John of Blackwell, Oklahoma; Sharon Cox and husband John of Chickasha; and Renee Pruitt of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. 3 Sisters: Lenora Walker of Worland, Wyoming; Naomi Cheek of Wenatchee, Washington; and Shirley Turner of Pauls Valley. 2 Brothers: John Smith and wife, Mary of Blackwell; and Bill Smith and wife, Clara of Pauls Valley, OK. 16 Grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Roy Smith; 3 brothers, Lois, Paul and Frankie and by a sister Thelma, and by step-daughter Ann Watson and step-son Harry Pruitt. Chapel services will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 2:00pm at the Winans Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Billy Davenport officiating. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery with the Flag Ceremony presentation by the Maysville American Legion. Services are under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home.
