Joseph A. Jacobs, 86, Purcell, formerly of Maysville, died Tuesday evening, April 12, 2011 at Purcell Municipal Hospital. He was born on March 22, 1925 at Topeka, Kansas to Joseph Alex and Catherine (Werbach) Jacobs. Joe lived in Kansas while growing up and he attended school at Wichita East High. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. Joe married Martha Hammann on June 6, 1946 at St. Joseph’s Church in Wichita, Kansas. He played professional baseball for the Washington Senators and then later played for the Pauls Valley Raiders. Joe and Martha moved to the Maysville area in 1949 where Joe worked for Warren Petroleum for almost 30 years. He was a member of the St. Mark’s The Evangelist Catholic Church in Norman. Joe will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. His survivors include his sons: Danny Jacobs and wife, Kit of Purcell; Karl Jacobs and wife, Lydia of Chula Vista, CA; John Jacobs of Paoli; and Joey Jacobs of Oklahoma City. A daughter, Mary McIlvoy and husband, Mike of Norman. Brother, Donald Jacobs of Wichita, Kansas. Sister, Mary Schuller of Prince George, Virginia. Grandchildren: Eddie Jacobs and wife Adrienne of Ada; Gina Kidd and husband Patrick of Katy, Texas; Joseph Jacobs of San Diego, CA; Mary Jane Jacobs of Los Angeles, CA; Chris Jacobs and wife, Jasmine of San Diego, CA; Ryan McIlvoy and wife Jaymi of Spring, Texas; Bo McIlvoy and wife, Ashley of Durant; and Anna Marie Jacobs of Oklahoma City. 5 great grandchildren: Jaxson Kidd, Leyton Jacobs, Ty McIlvoy, Cooper McIlvoy, and Graham McIlvoy. And many other relatives and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha; 7 brothers, Richard, Paul, Charlie, Harold, Bobby, Leroy, and Jakie; 2 sisters, Patricia and Dorothy. Rosary services will be held at 7:30 pm, Thursday, April 14, 2011 at St. Mark’s The Evangelist Catholic Church, on West Tecumseh Road in Norman, OK and funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Friday, April 15, 2011 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church with Father Tom Boyer officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, April 15, 2011 in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
