Velma Jewell Taylor James Born: November 30, 1925 at Freedom, Arkansas to Jim Joe and Myla Mae Smith Taylor. Died: Friday, July 16, 2010 at the Hugo Choctaw Memorial Hospital. Age: 84 Velma James has been a longtime resident of this area. She attended school at Florence Chapel near Paoli. Velma worked hard all of her life providing for her family. She was an excellent cook and would make and sell homemade pies as well as working at Edna’s Café and Evelyn’s Steakhouse here in Maysville. She also worked at Zanola’s Dry Goods. She was an excellent quilt maker, loved to garden, and can vegetables. Velma loved to camp, fish, and greatly enjoyed her trips to Colorado. In July of 1973, she married Andy James and he preceded her in death in September of 1983. Velma will certainly be missed by her family and friends made throughout the years. Survivors: 3 Daughters: Beverly Rogers and husband Ellis of Maysville-----Rita Paredes of Antlers, Oklahoma and Minnie Powell and husband Larry of Lindsay.. 7 Grandchildren and 22 Great-grandchildren. Velma is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Myla Taylor and by brothers Francis Columbus Taylor, James Taylor, Glen J. Taylor and 1 granddaughter Tyler Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Maysville with Rev. Steve Spangler officiating with burial in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville.
