Howard Lafayette Walden

Howard Lafayette Walden was born September 2, 1921 at Wallville, Oklahoma to Joseph Clifton and Virgie Estelle Fussel Walden. He died on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at his home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma at the age of 88. In July 1940, Howard married Juanita Narramore at Loving, New Mexico. They made their home in Carlsbad, New Mexico, where Howard worked in the potash mines until joining the Army in July 1944. Howard served his country in the U. S. Army 11th Airborne and was stationed in the Philipines, Okinawa, and Japan during World War II. Upon returning from Japan in 1946, Howard returned to the potash mines in Carlsbad, until he and Juanita moved to Maysville in 1950. Howard worked in farming and the Warren Petroleum gas plant until 1960, when he opened Walden Grain & Seed Company. In later years Howard also operated a flag service for his community and surrounding areas, and one can still see many of the flags he installed. Howard was a member and past Deacon of the First Baptist Church, and member and past Commander of the American Legion. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include, his son, Danny Walden and his wife, Vickie of Bartlesville Daughter, Anita Sue Walden of Albuquerque, New Mexico Brother, Bryan Lee Walden of Woodbury, Tennessee Sister, Ann Posey and her husband, Loyd of Mena, Arkansas 4 grandchildren and by many other family and friends made through the years Howard was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Juanita; grandson, Curtis; and brothers, James and Kenneth. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the First Baptist Church, Maysville, OK. Rev. J. V. Lobaugh and Rev. Charles Henthorn will officiate with burial in the Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
