Vernon Harris

Vernon “Sonny” Harris, 76, of Corn, Oklahoma formerly of Maysville died Monday, September 6, 2010 at Corn Heritage Village. He was born November 10, 1933 at Whitebead, Oklahoma to Marion and Hazel (McManus) Harris. Sonny grew up in the Whitebead area attending school there. On September 15, 1952, he married Minnie Ridgeway. Sonny was employed by Chevron and while working for them they lived in Vernal, Utah, Tatum, New Mexico, El Reno, Oklahoma and in Pampa, Texas. In 1986 they moved back to Maysville. Sonny enjoyed fishing and being with his family. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His survivors include: his wife, Minnie Harris of Weatherford, Oklahoma. His son, Nick Harris of Weatherford. A daughter, Marla Harris. Brothers: Don Harris of Maysville and Ronnie Harris of Pauls Valley. Sisters: LeeWanda McCurtain of Maysville and Wilma Bowen of Maysville. 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Madelaine Harris; brothers, L.D. Harris and Willie B. Harris. Family visitation will be 6 to 9 pm, Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Winans Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, September 10, 2010 at Winans Funeral Home Chapel, Maysville, Oklahoma. Herb McCaleb and Danny Carter will officiate with burial in the Whitebead Cemetery under the direction of John Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville, OK.
